Digital Business 13

Hello everyone,

this week started with a lecture by a company called Rainmaker. The first part of the lecture was brilliant and the lecturer's presentation about sales was definitely on point, loads of great information we all can probably use in the future.

The second part was about their trainee program called "Leijona akatemia", which basically is a 12 month program where you learn about sales and even have the opportunity to work as a sales person. I have a few mates who actually work for Rainmaker and they told me, that the job would probably be labeled as insurance sales.

After the lectures we got the chance to sign up for the program or give them our contacts, if we would consider joining it later.

The rest of the week was pretty much school-free, since we had an exam on thursday. I spent the whole week studying for it and i think i did alright, but not as good as the first time.

I'm not sure if this will be my last blog post or not, but it's been a great course so far, but i have to admit that i am not going to miss blogging. It might be great for some people, but i just don't feel comfortable writing about my weekly stuff at school. Not that it bothers me neither, but i just don't think it's useful for me, but it might come in as a handy skill in the future!

Hello everyone.

Unfortunately this week i happened to miss the mondays lecture, because we were on a student cruise, which was pretty epic. The cruise is twice a year and we were also there last year, hopefully again next year.

I also missed the thursdays lecture because of some personal matters that needed my immediate attention, but i heard we had some great stuff going on, shame i couldn't make it.

Some of us also got to present the subjects we chose earlier on this course, the point of this was to teach each other something new. My team's subject was "Social media 101", which is basically a guide to how to maintain or make a successful social media account, business wise of course.

Well not much more to be said on the week i was not present, but hopefully next week will be as awesome as usual and will make up for the time lost.

PS: Hopefully this week's lectures will be added to the drive so i can view them later!

Digital Business 11

Hello!

This week was quite brilliant, we had two guest lecturers, Jaakko Alasaarela who is the CEO of a company called ZEF Solutions. The company helps customers with decision making and provides tools to test what they should pick, for example they made a tool where you input your answers and it tells you what kind of dog you should buy, interesting stuff.

Jaakko's lecture was amazing it was truly inspirational, he told us to write down our dreams and keep track if and when we achieve them, by writing them down you can easily follow if you have already accomplished them. He also talked about Zlatan Ibrahimovic how he also struggled a lot before reaching his goals.

The second lecturer was Camilla Tuominen, the CEO of Emotion Tracker. She mainly talked about emotions overall and how hard it is to actually recognize all of them, thats why she created an application that helps you keep track of them and also identifying them. This subject was totally a new one for me, i had no idea people actually would like to do something like this, really innovative product.

We also got a group work to read a few thesis analyze them and make a presentation about it, i chose two thesis' about the digital era, which were kind of interesting, got me thinking if i should aim for something similar?

We ended the week with our presentations and our digital coaches gave us two presentations about Search Engine Optimization and a internet service called Freshdesk, not going to talk that much more about them since the subject is quite huge, but overall great stuff.

See you next week.

Digital Business 10

Hello,

this week was quite different and it has been almost a year since we last studied a similar subject, this week we studied about the law issues of our line of business. The lecturer Marjaana Marmo started on monday with a lecture, where we went through the basics, for example if an offer is sent and you receive a response, where the terms of the offer are being agreed then a binding contract has been formed. I must say some of the stuff we learned was interesting, but major of it was at least in my opinion quite boring. But as Marjaana said for Bachelors of business administration law is just a tool that we are going to use to achieve something or follow as guidelines.

After the lecture on monday we were given three tasks, first one was to make make a powerpoint presentation about "Business on the internet" and use the book called "Markkinointijuridiikka" to cover the basics of it. The second task was to make another presentation about the about the book and we were told to make it so good that if Ilkka or Anna wouldn't knew anything about the subject, then after the presentation they would know everything. Third task was actually in my opinion the hardest, we had 9 different cases where in some cases something shady had happened and in one a person had bought shoes from a sale and she did not like them, so the question was can she return them? On this task we had to use a book called "Juridiikan Perusteet", we had to browse through the pages to find the answers.

On thursday we had the weekly wrap-up where we had the usual lottery which team is going to present their presentations. Afterwards we covered the task with the 9 cases and every group was made to answer what they think is the right legal answer.

The week was really different on what we usually do, but it was also really good to learn this subject, because i know it will probably come in handy in the future.

Let's see what next week brings us!

Digital Business 9.0

Hello again.

Week 9 has passed and im still learning more and more, there's so much stuff to learn about digitalism and marketing. This week we had a great lecture about sports marketing by Arto Kuuluvainen from a company called M3Research Ltd. The lecture was filled with great information and fun facts, for example i had no idea how much money the soccer teams can be actually be worth (Real Madrid was around 3 billion USD).

Arto's presentation also covered a subject, how companies can use sports teams to market themselves by sponsoring them they gain visibility and the sports team also gets money, so it's a win-win situation for the both of them, atleast that's how i saw it.

Here's the link to one of the videos he showed us.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRbKqnufXe4

We also worked this week for a Start-up company called Dogle, which was great we got to innovate with our teams for the company. Can't really talk more about that since we were told not to.

We also had our weekly usuals for our target company, this week we did some social media posts and picked pictures from them also and i finally finished the commercial video for the company.

Great week overall, let's see what we get next week.

Digital business 8.0

Hello!

This week we did not have that much to do since we had exam on thursday, so i basicly read the entire week for it. The exam was quite odd one actually, we did it online which was a first time for me at least. I think it was actually way better since we didn't have to go to school to do it and i could concentrate much better due to the lack of people around. I think the exam went great, but it's hard to evaluate it myself, let's hope we get the grades as fast as possible. We are also going to have to next exam online also, which is great.

I actually did not learn anything new during this week, except for some small points regarding the topics that we had learnt earlier, but not anything major. Next week we are going to continue the group works and on monday we will have a few guest lecturers!

Overall another great week of new experiences, not much happened so i am not going to drivel any longer.

See you next week

Digital business 7.0 & Feedback

Hello!

Another week has passed and this week week had great lectures from Ilkka and Bishnu. Ilkka's presentation was about digital strategy and it was really interesting, the lecture was also streamed through the Periscope app. Overall there was about 70-80 students present and over 70 people watching the stream through the app, so approximately 150 people, not bad.

The most intriguing subject of Ilkkas's lecture was the "Paid media - Owned media - Earned media", which i hadn't really given much thought earlier, really eye opening! Bishnu's lecture was also really good, since i used the marketing grader tool to analyze a website, the recommendations kept telling me about "Lead Nurturing" and i had no clue what that was. Good thing he taught us that, right?

My picture of Ilkka's presentation was so bad quality, that i didn't want to upload that, but this picture is pretty much the same.

So this week's task for our target companies was to use the "Marketing Grader Hubspot" tool to analyze the company and 2 competitors. Basicly what the tool does is it checks what kind of social media pages or blogs the target company has, is it search engine optimized, does it have meta data tags and bunch of other stuff also, for example how is it coded and does the coding need to be improved.

We also created a landing page for Lacy Box, which was a totally new thing for us also and turned out to be way harder than we thought before making it. We added there a catchy title, the main text about christmas gifts and Lacy Box being the obvious choice and before that will be the commercial video, which im still editing since the first version wasn't good enough.

Feedback for other blogs

http://roadtodigitalisation.blogspot.fi/2015/10/networking.html

Otto's blog was quite good actually, he has great visuals in his blog and the text is overall really good. I think i have to take some notes of his blog and start using some pictures also. It was also great that he added pictures of "after hours", it made it much more fun to read.

http://lauriolavi.blogspot.fi/2015/10/the-sixth.html

Lauri's blog was short and concise, however i myself would have maybe added some more texts. I personally think that 2 small chapters are hardly enough to cover the whole week.

http://matiastelio.blogspot.fi/2015/10/week-6.html

Matias' blog was also pretty good, he also uses a lot of visuals and has great content in his blog. His texts always have kind of an storyline, which keeps the reader intrigued or me atleast.

http://teemusuomalainen.blogspot.fi/2015_10_01_archive.html

Teemu's blog was quite short also, i guess some people like to keep it short and simple. Like me Teemu could also use visuals on his blog to make it better.

Shpetim was the only one, that i've seen so far to do a video blog on this course. Kind of amazing, his videos were clear and were much more fun to view compared to reading a regular blog. Shame that his videos and channel doesn't have more views and subscribers.

Digital Business 6.0

Hello,

week number 6 has passed and I must say it has been quite the different one. This week we did a social media campaign for our target company Lacy Box, which included a blog post for their own blog and we also did 2 promotional messages for Facebook and 3 for Twitter.

Writing a blog for a women's underwear company was quite hard and it took us huge amount of time to get it done, but after many hours we made it happen, not sure if it is good enough for the company's blog but at least we gave it our best shot.

I also started a new course called "Content marketing" where we were supposed to pick a topic and basically teach or tell others about the subject. I chose the same topic that Anna taught us during one of our lectures about the cross cultural differences. The blog I wrote turned out to be quite good in my opinion at least and I also tossed in some points I thought were good from Lynn's presentation.

Next week we will be doing a promotional video for Lacy Box, good thing I once learned video editing.

Digital business 5.0

Hello, another week of digital business models course has passed. This week we had another great guest lecturer Jyri from Vapamedia, his lecture was about problem solving and creative thinking. The lecture was great and I learnt so much from it, for example how many different ways there are to do things in the marketing business and that everyone has their own ways to operate.

We also started group works for the target companies and our team was assigned to the company called Lacy Box, which is owned by a woman entrepreneur called Lynn. This week our task was to choose few good images from her website that we wanna use in the promotional video that we are going to do in the future. We did a business model canvas for Lacy Box, which turned out to be way better than the last one we did a year ago. We also did a keyword analysis using google AdWords, which was a whole new experience for the whole team and in my opinion it was a useful new technique to learn. We made up 10 keywords and the program showed us diagrams of the expected viewer amount to those keywords and it mixed them into total 116 keywords. On thursday we ended the week by doing powerpoint presentations about what each of us had done and what we are planning to do for the target companies, I ended up presenting our powerpoint alone since the rest of the team was occupied, but it turned out to be quite fun since it was my first time presenting alone in Laurea. Next week we are going to have few lectures and we are doing a blogpost for Lacy Box.

Digital Business 4.0

Hello, another week behind and next week we will put the knowledge we have acquired during this course to test. Companies are coming to Laurea, they are going to introduce themselves and afterwards we will start our projects for the target company which we have been assigned to.

This week was quite different, we had a guest lecturer Tomek who was Anna's polish friend and worked for a company called e-supplie. Tomek's presentation was actually pretty eye-opening, I learnead numerous ways how "online companies" operate and how differently you can actually do business these days.

On thursday we had other students present the subjects they had chosen, there was presentations about old projects, nordic business forum, blogging and growth hacking. It was great that students were given the choice to pick a subject they found interesting, of course we had to run it by the teachers but still overall a great chance.

Digital Business 3.0

Hello, another week has passed and i have learned many great new things. I never really thought about the cultural differences and how it affects the way how people from different countries operate during business or business meetings. I found it very pleasent that so many of us students did powerpoint presentations about different cultures and it was really nice to learn so many new things about other countries.

We also got a task that we need to do a powerpoint presentation, but we can choose the subject ourselves, which is awesome because now we chose a subject that we really like. Our team chose to do the presentation about "Social media 101" where we will try to figure out the best ways to gain visibility and traffic to your social media sites.

Next week we are going to have few guest lecturers, hopefully they will be as good as the last one which was pretty great and here is my cultural baggage.

Digital business 2.0

Hi,

this week we had great lectures about personal branding and Anna showed some great examples of how different CV's can actually be, that was really interesting. We also had a task where we worked in groups and chose one of Laurea's social media sites and listed pros and cons of it.

Later on the lecture included some slides about elevator pitching and we got a homework to do one ourselves. At first I struggled doing, but then I took it step by step and followed some great instructions which i found from the internet and it started going much better. For my very first filmed elevator pitch I think it turned out to be decent and I think that in the future my pitching will become much better.

Overall another amazing week behind and I am really looking forward to see what new the teachers have prepared for us for next week.

Digital Business 1.0

This week we started a new course called digital business and i must say it has had it’s ups and downs. The subject itself sounds very interesting, but the last assignment didn’t turnout to be something marvelous. I Mean the subject seems really interesting but for me ”A dream for 2020” wasn't that educating experience, but overall a great week behind and hopefully many more to come.

I Have never really been into blogging, but after Bishnu’s presentation about it being a massive way to increase your websites traffic im looking it in a whole new light.

This week I have learned great many things about blogging, for example the sites wix and blogger. And how easy it is to create one.

Hopefully next week's subject will be even more thrilling!
